Rare English Castle Pique Cloute Inlaid Tortoiseshell Card Case C.1830

Description

A very fine William IV tortoise shell visiting card case inlaid in exquisite pique cloute on all six sides. The front panel features a rare scene of an English castle with the flags flying and a clock tower to the right hand side, and surrounded by gardens.

The other side of the case again in pique cloute, is a delightful floral and foliate vignette. All the sides of the case also have fine scroll decoration, framed by pewter stringing. The top of the lid is mounted with a silver mount which could be engraved with small initials if desired.

The push button catch is in perfect working order as is the hinge and once the case is opened the original interior is revealed with ivory lining and Royal blue velvet lining.

Exceptional and exquisite in every way and in pristine condition. 4 1/8" x 3".
