This Edwardian satinwood hand-painted Carlton House desk was made circa 1900.

Carlton House desks were the inspiration of Hepplewhite and the first one was made for the then Prince of Wales (later to become George IV) and named after his Palace Carlton House.
This superb example is smaller than the original but is of the same shape and form.
It is like a writing table with the U-shaped fitting to the rear, fitted multiple drawers, and bowed cupboards, that open to reveal open storage, as well as the compartments with the serpentine lifting lids.
The desk stands on tapering legs and 3 drawers around the kneehole.
It is beautifully decorated with delicate hand-painted floral swags and vignettes to the top and to the rear.
