Antique English Hand Painted Papier Mache Scent Bottle Box - Museum Quality

Description

Exceptional in every way, this is truly heirloom quality. Dating to around 1850, one would expect this stunning Papier Mache perfume casket to be signed by the famous Jennens & Bettridge, but there isn't a signature to be found.

An exquisite shape with a wonderful bright patina and beautifully hand-painted with flowers and a bird of paradise to the lid; all finished in decorative gilding which is usually very worn, this example does remain very fresh.

The interior houses the four original Baccarat style crystal bottles sitting amongst a red velvet lining, graduated, with two larger bottles to the back and two smaller ones to the front. All remain in pristine, clean condition.

The front has a mother of pearl escutcheon (alas, no key). Breathtaking!! 5 1/5" x 4 1/2" tall at rear.
