An early 19th elm and ash Windsor armchair c1840. Made in the typical style of a Windsor chair, it has a hoop and spindle back with a hoop waist and arms, a shaped seat, and turned legs united by a stretcher for strength. The patina, colour and grain in the woods are superb, revealing a wonderful antique presence. The seat shows signs of slight uneveness, giving a rustic but authentic feel. The seat has suffered worm, a long time ago, and it’s no longer present with old holes filled in. This piece bursts with character and a life lived, and it is in strong and sturdy condition. Due to the dimensions this armchair was made for an average size gentleman. Very comfortable too.

Inner seat measures 38cm depth x 42cm width within arms and frame.
