Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the late nineteenth century, Victorian furniture makers produced hall tables influenced by Gothic and Jacobean Revival aesthetics. These pieces feature relief carving, ornate gallery backs or upstands, and turned or carved legs constructed from dark timber.

Victorian hall tables were constructed from solid oak or mahogany using joinery techniques such as mortise and tenon joints. Carvings were hand-executed directly into the timber, often incorporating masks, foliate scrollwork, and geometric repeating border patterns.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-carved details with minor structural variations, along with deep natural patina accumulated within recessed carvings. Original joinery, historical underside wear, and subtle timber shrinkage over time also help verify nineteenth-century construction.

A carved oak hall table serves as a structural accent when positioned in an entryway or corridor against light-toned walls. Positioning modern lighting, simple ceramic vessels, or contemporary artwork above the table creates a strong balance between historic detail and modern minimalism.

Maintain the timber by dusting regularly with a dry, lint-free cloth and applying a clear beeswax polish annually. Use a soft bristle brush to clear dust from intricate carved crevices, and keep the table positioned away from direct heat sources and damp conditions.
