A Pair of Scottish Berry Spoons Peter Lambert

An exquisite pair of William IV silver Berry spoons dated 1832 and assayed in Edinburgh. These delightful spoons have gilded bowls decorated with what are possibly pomegranate and peaches. The shafts are decorated with a pretty flower and foliate design terminating with a scallop shell. The spoons are of a good weight.

Unusually the spoons have two makers marks stamped PL for Peter Lambert and E & Co for Elder and Co of Edinburgh. Peter Lambert is known to have worked in Aberdeen, Dundee and Montrose. When two stamps are present this suggests that one silversmith made the spoons where as the other retailed them. We think that it is likely that Peter Lambert is our maker and Elder and Co, being Edinburgh based, were the retailers.

Marks: Edinburgh assay mark, thistle for Scottish Silver, & Co, PL, 'A' date stamp for 1832, customs stamp of the Kings head.

Weight: 4.9ozs

Condition: Very good antique condition, free of tarnishing, the stamp marks are incredibly clear. As is often the case the gilding is rubbed (see photos) but in the light the bowls still show a good amount of gilding (see photos).
