Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Georgian pine mantelpieces typically feature classical architectural proportions, geometric moulding, and hand-carved central motifs such as scallop shells, urns, or swags. Originally designed to be painted to imitate stone or marble, pine became a favoured material during the eighteenth century due to its workability.

Period pine fireplace surrounds were constructed using solid softwood, joining carved pilasters, a lintel, and a projecting shelf using traditional mortise and tenon joinery. Carved details were either executed directly into the timber or applied as carved wood or gesso composition accents.

Authentic period pine mantelpieces show signs of hand-planing, original mortise-and-tenon construction, and historical paint residue in deeper crevices. The underside and back of the timber typically exhibit natural darkening and age-related oxidation consistent with historic fireplace installations.

A stripped pine surround provides warm, organic texture when set against neutral plaster or dark painted focal walls in contemporary living areas. It can frame a functional stove, a decorative tiled hearth, or an arrangement of pillar candles and logs.

To preserve natural pine, clean gently with a soft microfibre cloth and avoid harsh chemical liquid cleaners that disrupt the surface finish. Applying a thin coat of clear beeswax once or twice a year helps protect the wood grain and maintain its natural patina.
