This is an antique ornate privacy screen. An Indian, gilt mahogany six panel room divider with elephant and gemstone decor, dating to the late Victorian period, circa 1900.

 

Striking hand-carved privacy screen with dazzlingly ornate Indian taste

Displays a desirable aged patina and delightfully heavy

Carved relief elephants and pierced fretwork accentuate the gilt painted stocks

Profusely detailed with glass gemstones and mirrored tiles against vibrant golden tones

 

Six folding panels present a versatile proposition for the bedroom or as a decorative room divider

Octagonal lozenges to each panel host charming relief elephant figures

Chased foliate borders frame each panel with triangular scrolled fretwork uniting each lozenge

Each panel raised upon pairs of shaped legs with splayed toes
