Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Barley twist columns, inspired by Solomonic pillars, gained popularity in 17th-century Jacobean furniture and experienced a major resurgence during the late Victorian and Edwardian eras. Plant stands incorporating these twisted wooden turnings were designed to display house plants and floral arrangements in formal reception rooms.

Traditional plant stands of this period were typically crafted from solid oak, walnut, or mahogany. Construction features turned barley twist legs created using a lathe, mortise and tenon joinery for stability, and solid timber tops with bevelled edges.

Authentic period pieces feature turned barley twist legs showing slight natural variations in character, period joinery beneath the top, and natural age-related patination. The presence of surface wear on the lower shelf where pots rested also indicates genuine usage over time.

This functional accent piece can be positioned in an alcove or corner to display cascading greenery, modern ceramics, or a table lamp. The rich wood tone provides a grounded, structural contrast against minimalist walls or textured wallpapers.

Keep the timber surface dry by always placing a protective drip tray beneath plant pots to prevent water ring marks. Dust regularly with a soft cotton cloth and apply a quality beeswax polish periodically to nourish the oak and preserve its original finish.
