Antique Tacheh (Wheat-sack), Luri-bakhtiari Tribes, the Chahar Mahal, Western Persia.

1900 - 1920
Description

This charming 'tacheh' or wheat-sack has a knotted-pile checkerboard centre-piece which shows wonderful design movement, possibly due to the horizontal loom being moved on several occasions and thus the tension in the warp threads never being exactly the same. Note the detailed vertical stripes on the left and the fabulous movement of design on the right. I believe the symbolic meaning is that on the right, the wheat is growing out of the bare earth whereas on the left, it is fully grown. This then represents the bounty of God to these nomads and the wheat is an important part of their lives. Made by Luri-Bakhtiari tribes in the Chahar Mahal area of western Persia circa 1920.

Size: 1.14m x 1.07m (3' 9" x 3' 6").

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
