Description

'Tachehs' or wheat-sacks were used, as the name implies, for containg wheat in nomadic life.

This handsome tacheh has been opened-up to show the entire, original size of the bag as it was when made. The sides and base would originally have been sewn-up using resilient goat-hair leaving an opening at the top into which the wheat was poured. All tachehs have a different knotted-pile bottle-shape centre-piece which probably denotes the owner. The weaver in this case has added a little knotted-pile 'flower' to the left of the centre-piece. Dating to the last quarter of the nineteenth century, this tacheh retains its original hanging loops and is in good overall condition.
