We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Carriage clocks were first developed in France in the early nineteenth century by Abraham-Louis Breguet as sturdy, portable timepieces for travellers. Designed to withstand movement in horse-drawn carriages, they quickly gained popularity across Europe during the Victorian and Edwardian eras as prestige desk accessories.

Traditional carriage clocks are framed in brass, silver plate, or solid sterling silver casing. The clock face usually features a white enamel dial with Roman numerals, set behind glass, and powered by a spring-driven mechanical clockwork movement with blued steel hands.

Authentic period examples generally display hallmarking on the silver casing indicating metal purity, assay office, and makers marks. Look for white vitreous enamel dials with fine Roman numerals and an internal mechanical movement rather than modern battery-operated quartz mechanisms.

A polished silver carriage clock functions as a refined accent piece when placed on a mantelpiece, writing desk, or library shelf. Its clean metallic finish bridges traditional horology and modern aesthetics, pairing seamlessly with dark timber, leather-bound books, or contemporary glass surfaces.

Clean silver casings gently using a soft microfibre cloth designed for silver polish to prevent tarnish build-up without eroding metalwork. Mechanical movements should be wound with care using the correct key and serviced periodically by a professional horologist to preserve timekeeping accuracy.
