Antique Georgian Solid Silver Set of 4 Salt Spoons Onslow Pattern - C.1760

18th century
Description

We are delighted to offer this wonderful set of four exemplary Onslow pattern salt spoons made c.1760.

Surviving over approximately 250 years through the ups and downs of history, this set of four salt spoons has remained in good condition and together.

The Onslow pattern features a cast scroll terminal with a tapered stem, connecting a shell-shaped/scalloped bowl on the other end.

Classically elegant and presenting an understated English Georgian II style, this set would grace a preexisting collection of fine silverware, salt cellars or even as a unique conversation starter within a dining set - exhibiting a delightful balance of practicality for serving condiments and historic value.

Despite its originally intended use for salt, why not get creative and use these spoons in unique modern ways such as serving caviar, spices or even as a little espresso spoon?

The maker's (indistinct) mark and the lion passant are present on all four spoons on the stem. The marks are quite worn due to age and only feature these two marks as commonly found on small wares of this period.

SIZE

Size (cm) L:9cm W:1.7cm

Size (inches) L:3.54 W:0.66

Weight: 34 grams (1.09 Troy oz) total for all 4 spoons.

CONDITION

Good Condition - The set is in good antique condition, with no major damage or issues especially considering its age. Please note that due to its antique nature, there are signs of wear on the hallmarks and surface scratches as to be expected with age.

Please refer to the photographs to examine the condition in further detail.
