Gents Ww1 Silver Tavannes Wrist Watch, 1914

1900 - 1920
Description

Gents silver Tavannes wrist watch, 1914.

The watch has a hand-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement has been identified as by Tavannes, and indeed the patent date of May 1904 which is stamped on the movement relates to for a negative set stem winding and setting mechanism granted to Sandoz, founder of the Tavannes Watch Company.

The watch measures 36mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the fixed wire lugs. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside the screw-on case back for Birmingham 1914, together with a case maker’s mark for Aaron Dennison, a prolific Birmingham based case maker and supplier to various companies. The front and sides of the case are in good condition. The case back has some unevenness.

The glass lens is in good condition.

The dial is in its original finish, there are some hairlines but hard to see, even with a jeweller’s loupe. The hands have been overpainted at some point.

The watch comes on a new leather strap.

Declaration
