Ernst Wahliss Antique Porcelain Centerpiece,c.1900

1900 - 1920
Description

Large Austrian centrepiece on a leg with an image of a woman holding a large bowl vase and a boy leaning on this bowl on the other side. Marking on the underside with the crowned shield of Wahliss.

An elegant antique statuette in glazed porcelain, one of Ernst Wahliss' finest works. The contours of the face, the characteristic patina of Wahliss' work, the muted but noble light beige, ivory and gold-blue colours are visible to the smallest detail. A very rare statuette in its beauty.

Ernst Walliss was the leading Viennese porcelain and ceramics merchant who established his shop in 1863. Almost overnight he opened another shop in London and also bought the factory of Alfred Stelmacher in Thurn-Teplitz, today in the Czech Republic.

Ernst died in 1900. Two years later his sons, Hans and Erich, purchased six hundred moulds from the Imperial and Royal Porcelain Manufactory in Vienna and, using these moulds, began producing reproductions of Vienna porcelain. It was branded with the Vienna crown and dated 1897-1906.

On the base the Ernst Valiss company trademark, number 4725, number 3 and three rows of digits: 4725, 136, 12.

18.5 cm height

width 31 cm

depth 15 cm

1800 g

Excellent condition, there are two small hairline cracks which are only visible on the inside of the bowl. They are not visible on the outside. On the boy's right hand the small tip of the little finger is chipped off. There is a crack at the base, which is also not visible from the outside.

Otherwise there are no visible signs of damage. Excellent preservation of paint and gilding.

Please examine all pictures carefully.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
