Derby Kakeimon Flying Fox Pattern Plate,c.1810 . Extremely Rare

19th century
Description

This porcelain plate , was made by at Derby , circa 1810 , and bears the red factory mark , on the base . .

It is decorated with handpainted flying fox in the kakiemon style .

Stunning antique porcelain plate or dish, decorated with the flying fox design, colourful drawn motifs in the center.

Kakiemon is a style of Japanese porcelain with an overglaze, so-called “enamel” finish.

It was originally produced at the factories around Arita, in Japan's Hizen province (today, Saga Prefecture) from the Edo period's mid-17th century onwards. The potter Sakaida Kakiemon, who lived in the mid 17th century, was one of the first in Japan to discover the secret of enamel decoration on porcelain, known as akae.

Kakiemon porcelain was exported from Japan into Europe via the Dutch East India Company in the late 17th century, where its contact with European cultural tastes precipitated the style’s appropriation by Meissen in the early 18th century, followed by Chelsea, Worcester, and Derby

The DERBY mark on the bottom of the red plate means that the plate was made between 1806 and 1820. The mark is almost worn off.

The plate is in excellent ancient condition, except for a part of the gilding being worn off on the rim. The colors and enamel of the painting have fully been preserved. The details are in such a state, as if the plate has never been used before. For a plate that is more than 200 years old, this is a rarity. Please carefully regard all photos.
