This is a superb silver plated sardine dish, by the renowned retailer and silversmith Mappin & Webb, Circa 1870 in date.

Mappin & Webb silver-plate and green glass sardines box, with a cover. Amazing in the beauty of work. Silver-plated, this container shines brilliantly and is without damage or scuffs, and the dark green glass that contrasts in colour with the box gives the correct impression of solidity and aristocracy.

The patterns on the bottom and top rims, openwork handles and walls, and of course two raised sardines on the lid create a completely unique look for this piece of art. Of course, sardines were stored in this box in the late Victorian era, but today this box can be seen to be part of the bygone era, and will decorate your table whatever you may store inside. It's not only an elegant but also an expensive and tasteful gift.
