Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Meiji period bronze metalwork (18681912) is renowned for advanced casting techniques, intricate high-relief carving, and nuanced patination. Craftsmen adapted traditional sword-fitting skills to decorative vessels, frequently incorporating naturalistic motifs such as birds, flora, and mythical creatures.

These vessels were typically cast in bronze using lost-wax (cire perdue) or piece-mould casting techniques. The raised relief decorations were refined by hand-chiselling and engraving, followed by chemical surface treatments to achieve rich, multi-toned brown or reddish patinas.

Authentic pieces demonstrate considerable physical weight, crisp hand-finished detail in the relief carving, and natural wear to the patina around raised areas. Look for cast or incised signatures near the base, as well as seamless integration of handles and cast sections.

A substantial bronze urn serves as a strong sculptural focal point when placed on a dark wood sideboard, marble mantelpiece, or entryway console. Pairing it with clean-lined contemporary furniture or minimalist backdrops allows the rich texture and historic silhouette to stand out.

Dust regularly using a soft, dry microfibre cloth or a soft-bristled brush for carved details. Avoid liquid cleaners, chemical polishes, and water, which can strip the historic patina; a thin coat of microcrystalline wax can be applied periodically to protect the metal surface.
