Carleton Grant RBA 1858-1899.Born in Liverpool he developed a highly individual form of watercolour landscape painting.While undoubtably influenced by the nocturnes of James McNeill Whisy,his contribution presents evening time in a manner that is particularly sift and gentle with the last light reflected in quiet backwaters,often those of the Thames Valley.Prior to 1892 he lived in North Wakes at Rhyl and Llandudno but in that year he moved to the Thames Valley.In the same year he started exhibiting at the Royal Academy exhibiting 10 works between 1892-97.His main showcase was the Royal Society of British Artists where he showed 24 works in his short career.His work was shown to Queen Victoria and her daughter Princess Louise at Windsor Castle and each purchased two works. ‘Boats on the River Thames’ signed watercolour,dated 1893,image size 19x36 cms,framed size 45.5x61 cms
