Karl Feiertag: Pair of Framed Watercolour Paintings of Children at Play

1900 - 1920
Description

KARL FEIERTAG: A charming and well painted PAIR of Watercolours, depicting delightful young children at play. In one, they play by a swing, whilst in the other, they play with newly hatched chicks. As well as the obvious, they would make ideal Nursery decoration or Christening / Birthday presents.

Condition: Both paintings are mounted in plain gilt frames behind glass. They retain their colours very well. There is no insect infestation, fading, wear or any damage evident at all.

The artist: Karl FEIERTAG (1874-1944) was Austrian by birth. He studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna with Franz Rumpler, Kasimir Pochwalski, and Josef Mathias Trenkwald. He worked for various advertising companies in Vienna and Munich and moved to Weidling with his wife. In 1914 he became a member of the Association of Local Artists Klosterneuburg. Feiertag's work includes landscapes and cityscapes. His postcards with children's motifs, animal motifs, puppets, and teddy bears were hugely popular. For the Viennese art postcard publisher Brothers Kohn, he created a series with views and scenes on board the Trieste Austro-Americana ship Martha Washington. He also designed children's colouring books.

We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Karl Feiertag (18741944) was an Austrian painter and illustrator known for his narrative depictions of children at play. His works were widely popularised through postcards, book illustrations, and standalone art prints during the early decades of the twentieth century.

Period works on paper were typically mounted onto acid-free board, fitted behind protective clear float glass, and encased in timber frames finished with plaster mouldings, paint, or genuine gold leaf gilding.

Authentic works generally carry the artists signature or monogram on the lower corner of the image, show age-appropriate paper condition, and display precise print or watercolour execution consistent with early twentieth-century Austrian techniques.

Displaying the pair side-by-side above a console table, sideboard, or along a hallway gallery wall allows the gilded frames to introduce warmth alongside modern neutral paint tones and natural timber furnishings.

Glazed artworks should be kept away from direct sunlight and moist environments to prevent fading and foxing. The glass face can be cleaned gently using a dry microfibre cloth, keeping moisture clear of the wooden frame.
