Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A cassone is an Italian term for a large, decorative storage chest or coffer. Popular from the Middle Ages through the Renaissance and Baroque periods, these chests were traditionally commissioned as marriage gifts to store household linens, dowry textiles, and valuables.

Cassoni were typically crafted from solid timbers such as walnut, oak, or chestnut. Construction techniques involved hand-dovetailed or mortise-and-tenon joints, deeply carved relief panels, moulded bases, and hand-forged iron lock plates.

Authentic period coffers feature signs of historical hand tools, such as hand-sawn mark variations, irregular dovetails, and hand-cut ironwork. Age-appropriate surface patination, oxidation around iron fixings, and wear on bottom runners or carved feet are also key indicators.

An antique cassone can be styled in an entryway beneath large artwork, placed at the foot of a bed for linen storage, or positioned behind a contemporary sofa. Its strong silhouette provides visual grounding and textural contrast against modern, clean-lined architecture.

Dust the surface regularly using a soft, lint-free cloth. To maintain the timber polish and protect carved details, apply a natural beeswax polish once or twice a year, avoiding modern aerosol sprays or harsh chemical cleaners.
