Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Haystack jugs are distinctive conical copper vessels produced in Britain and Ireland during the 18th and 19th centuries, named for their shape resembling a traditional hayrick. They were primarily utilized in taverns and country houses for measuring and serving liquids such as cider, beer, or water.

Victorian copper jugs were handcrafted from heavy-gauge sheet copper, formed into shape and joined using dovetailed seams or brass brazing. Handles were forged separately and secured to the main body with sturdy copper or brass rivets, often featuring a tinned interior lining.

Authentic Victorian copperware displays hand-hammered surface marks, visible brazed or dovetailed construction seams along the sides and base, and hand-cut rivets. Genuine pieces often bear stamped liquid capacity marks, makers initials, or government verification stamps near the rim.

A large copper jug serves as a focal point when positioned on a fireplace hearth, kitchen island, or rustic sideboard. It functions effectively as a standalone sculptural item or as a floor vessel displaying dried floral arrangements and tall branches.

To preserve the natural aged patina, dust the surface with a soft dry cloth and avoid abrasive chemicals or acidic compounds. If a bright reflective finish is preferred, specialized metal polish can be applied sparingly, though retaining natural oxidisation preserves historic integrity.
