Donald Wood (1859-1953) was a British painter of horses, dogs, sporting scenes and landscapes. He entered the painting "Jodhpur Ponies Ready for the Second Chukker" to the 1932 Los Angeles Art Competition. His obituary in The Times made particular mention of "Luxembourg Gardens" and "A la Crémerie, Rassay". Wood exhibited work in London and the provinces and his paintings are now in good collections throughout the world.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

War art from the early twentieth century documented logistical support, medical units, and transport alongside active combat, often employing nocturne techniques to portray covert night movements and subdued atmospheric conditions.

Artists frequently utilised portable millboard, canvas-lined board, or timber panels prepared with a gesso ground, applying oil paint using layered brushwork to construct tonal depth and texture.

Authenticity is verified by analyzing artist signatures, period-correct dates, natural surface oxidisation, age-consistent board backing, and evidence of historic framing or exhibition labels.

Historical oil paintings function well as focal points above dark timber cabinetry, set against deep wall tones, or integrated into a gallery wall within a study or library room.

Maintain stable humidity and temperature levels, display the painting away from direct ultraviolet sunlight, and dust the surface lightly using a clean, soft-bristled brush.
