Description

The 'germech' was a panel made to go underneath the 'engsi' - door hanging - at the entrance to the yurt and its purpose was to keep out chickens and vermin. This germech is extremely unusual with its simple design of stylised shrubs or flowers on a rose-red background.

Made by Ersary tribes in the Amu Darya region of Turkmenistan during the mid to third quarter of the nineteenth century, the germech is in complete condition with no restoration, albeit its original braided hanging cords are missing.

A truly beautiful utilitarian hanging and extremely collectable.

Made by Ersary tribes in the Amu Darya region of Turkmenistan during the mid to third quarter of the nineteenth century, the germech is in complete condition with no restoration, albeit its original braided hanging cords are missing.
