Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1860s.

These miniature examples, are often either apprentice pieces where the junior carpenters could practice their skills on a smaller scale rather than using large quantities of expensive timbers, veneers and inlay on full size pieces or furniture. They were also created as salesman samples.
Each drawer has a turned wooden pull and the bottom three having faux escutcheons matching the drawer trim.

The box has been professionally re-French polished to gleam and showcase it's true beauty. Excellent all round condition with an old "crease" to the back where it once had knock, stable but mentioned for accuracy. 10 3 /4" tall including it's four turned feet with the top measuring 9 3/4" x 6 1/4".
