As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this large and most unusual pair of Meiji Period 1868-1912 , circa 1900, cloisonne enamel vases by the highly regarded Ando company, this most unusual pair of vases depict an owl in a tree top gazing out at the night sky, the opposing vase simply designed to highlight the birds moonlit setting, the main body of each vase painstakingly enameled in a wireless technique (musen) to demonstrate the effect of a moody night sky with the enamels graduating from blue to grey, the owl and foliage are worked in standard cloisonne techniques with the use of silver wires , each vase is fitted with substantial silver base and neck rims and signed to the underside with the Ando seal.
