A very stylish and sophisticated example of cabinet-making and design from one of the best London makers of the period.The cabinet is not stamped, however I am aware of other closely related examples made by he firm. The design is progressive and avant-garde, with a rather radical monochrome palette chosen in favour of softer, more conventional painted and gilt decoration. The detail of the carving is crisp and the drawers are mahogany-lined.Interestingly the cabinet exhibits several elements from E.W. Godwin''s repertoire including the foliate gilt-embossed paper; the circular cut-outs and the pierced flowerheads.
