Pair of early C19th French Empire Restauration period gilt-bronze vases.

High-quality cast gilded bronze neo-classical design twin-handled vases . The tapering ovoid bodies raised on cylindrical bases with chased and chequered decoration with stylised flower-heads , further band of decoration onto square plinths. The scroll handles with cornucopia details , the necks and bodies with bands of cast detail and stiff-leaf decoration.

In excellent original condition with a mellow, aged ‘golden’ patina and colour.

Originating in the early 19th century following the fall of Napoleon, Restauration period metalwork retains Neoclassical proportions while incorporating detailed surface ornament such as acanthus leaves and engine-turned diaper patterns on gilt bronze.

These urns were cast in bronze sections using mercury gilding to apply fine gold to the surface, finished with hand chasing and mounted onto engine-turned pedestals and square plinths.
