The Fancy Fox has dated this piece to the Georgian era.
Hallmarked inside the base for London, maker's Thomas Phipps and Edwin Robinson. The marks are quite rubbed and the date letter is unclear but appears most likely to be either 1799 or 1800. Maker's mark and lion passant under the cover.

It measures 10.5cm (4 1/8") wide by 7cm (2 3/4") deep and 2cm (3/4") high. It weighs 110g / 3.5ozt.
In excellent condition with only minor and appropriate signs of age; a small section of a flange covering the inside of the hinge is missing. The hinge is very good and the box closes well. Minor handling wear although the marks are partially worn as mentioned.
