Mike Melody Antiques has dated this piece to the 17th Century.
Having scoured our "oak books" chinnery etc we cannot find a similar back.
Folklore has it that a similar chair was in a bonhams "oak" sale years ago.
It measures 107cms h 49cms w and 38cms deep.
We are dating as conservatively 1660 could be earlier.
It has minor historic repairs but is perfectly sound and usable.
Slightly dry colour and will benifit from several waxings over time.
As we were doung pics we noticed impressed ownership intials on the underside of the seat.
