Regency Scroll End Couch C.1830

19th century
Description

Fabulous Regency mahogany scroll end couch c.1830. Padded backrest featuring a curving mahogany crossbanded top rail topped with a carved frieze featuring scrolling acanthus leaves flanked with grotesque serpent's heads. Over flared arms and a sprung seat. Exceptionally well carved fronts to the arms with spiral roundels and Classical inspired detail. Apron carved to echo the top and raised on claw feet front and rear. Serviceable upholstery in a pale green striped velvet chenille, continued on the rear, with obvious wear to the front edge of the seat. Otherwise excellent condition, solid and sturdy. The frame has been cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
