19th Century Mahogany Drop-dial Wall Clock by J.w. Enock of Warwick

Description

A good quality and very tidy early/mid 19th century mahogany Drop-Dial Wall Clock, made by J.W. Enock of Warwick. It retains its original 8-day fusee driven movement, has a 12-inch hand-painted dial with roman numerals and attractive moon-hands. The convex glass door has a brass bezel housed within a good mahogany frame. The drop-dial case below has nicely carved scroll-work to each side. There are inspection doors to either side at the top and to the base (in front) for ease of access to the movement and original adjustable pendulum.

Fully working and complete with key.

According to Brian Loomes (p. 249 - "Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the World"- 21st century edition) the Enock family of Warwick comprised several clockmakers (including at least four William Enocks'), they were prolific and spanned the period 1801-1881 when it would appear at least one member of the family expanded into jewellery-making.
