Ships Fusee Clock by Prescot

1900 - 1920
For Sale by Arundel Clocks
Description

Hi

I have for sale a very heavy English fusee ship's clock sold with a fully serviced chain-driven fusee movement by Prescot & Co of Prescot.

The Case

The case is in solid brass which has been cleaned and polished; she is 24cm across x depth of 12cm and in good original condition with a cast-hinged thick beveled glass front door released via the original key and lock.

The Dial

The dial is in good original condition in white enamel at 175cm across, also the clock also retains its original black/blue spade hands.

The Movement

The movement is an eight-day time only; she has been fully serviced by myself with a new spring added and runs faultlessly over eight days a really heavy movement and running via the original chain.

Overall a very original clock that contains all of its original features is quite a rare find these days.

If you require any further information, please ask. I am happy to send more photographs or can video of the clock running if desired. You are also very welcome to come and view the clock in person, which I would be happy to recommend as the photographs really can’t do it justice.

As with all my clocks, this one is sold with a ‘back-to-base’ 3-month guarantee. I also offer future clock servicing, which I carry out personally at a heavily discounted rate.

I will post worldwide.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A ships fusee clock is a mechanical maritime timekeeper that utilises a cone-shaped pulley and chain mechanism to maintain constant tension as the mainspring unwinds, ensuring accurate timekeeping at sea.

Marine clocks were typically constructed with solid brass outer casings to prevent salt air corrosion, featuring heavy glass bezels, brass gears, and printed or enamelled metal dials.

Authentic marine clocks feature heavy brass casings with screw-down or hinged bezels, dial winding holes, maker stamps, Roman numerals, and a slow-fast regulation lever located near the top of the dial.

Mount the clock on a targeted wall space, above a writing desk, or within a gallery wall to introduce warm metallic texture and historical detail to modern decor.

Dust the brass casing and glass regularly with a dry microfibre cloth, avoid abrasive liquid polishes that alter the patina, and have the mechanical movement serviced periodically by a qualified horologist.
