Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Chestnut urns, also known as marronnieres, were created in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries to hold or serve chestnuts at formal gatherings. Crafted from painted tinplate or toleware, these vessels feature decorative fitted lids and handles shaped in classical or Orientalist styles.

Regency toleware was constructed from thin rolled sheet iron coated in tin to prevent corrosion. The surface was painted or japanned in dark enamels and subsequently decorated with hand-gilded scenes, floral patterns, or chinoiserie landscapes.

Authentic period toleware displays hand-painted gilt decoration, subtle age-related surface cracking, and minor oxidisation where the metal base is exposed. Physical characteristics such as hand-riveted handles, folded tin seams, and weighted bases also indicate early construction.

A pair of toleware urns can be placed symmetrically on a sideboard, console table, or fireplace mantelpiece to establish visual structure. Their dark finish and gilded details complement traditional decorative schemes as well as minimalist spaces requiring historical contrast.

Dust the surface gently with a soft, dry lint-free cloth or a feather duster. Avoid applying water, chemical solvents, or abrasive polishes, as moisture can seep through surface micro-cracks and cause the underlying sheet iron to oxidise.
