Holding a bank of six drawers, three being dummy with the central drawer pull being the release for the secret drawer. The side with slide and tilt drawer holding pen tray and its original glass ink bottles. Behind this hides the secret drawer which is only revealed once the dummy drawer knob is pulled. An attractive panelled door with carved details to its corners opens to reveal a bank of five graduated drawers. The front supports are a particular feature having a lovely form with fine fretwork. They terminate with the most wonderful carved scrollwork. Another quality feature is the carved key escutcheon to its front and the piecrust detail below this. The whole stands on charming cupped bun feet with inset castors. Good patina and colour. These compact but ingenious little desks are now coming back into vogue with the use of laptops, tablets and iPads making them useful once again since the demises of the written letter. Ideal for a study or a room where you are restricted on space. Height to underside of the desk is 71cm. Height to front of desk top is 81cm.
