A good early 19th century French white marble and ormolu Mantel Clock, by maker ''Baltazart''. This fine example features four white marble columns, each decorated with flowers, leaves, ribbons and chains. Urns above each column and the clock itself features flowers and pineapples. The clock is supported on a white marble base with gold feet. The 8-day movement with hair-sprung adjustable pendulum, is concealed behind a glass panelled rear door and strikes hours and half-hours on a bell. The painted dial features roman numerals with gilded Fleur-de-Lis hands. Complete with original winding and pendulum adjustment keys.
The makers name ''Baltazart'' is painted on the dial below the ‘6’ behind the convex front glass door.
The BALTAZART family of clockmakers are known to have worked in Paris from different addresses during the period 1786 to about 1830. Sometimes written Baltazar; Baltazard or Balthazard.
