Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Tunbridge Ware is a traditional style of decorative inlaid woodwork developed in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, during the eighteenth century and reaching peak popularity in the Victorian era. The technique relies on assembling strips of varied naturally coloured timbers into complex geometric patterns or pictorial scenes before slicing them into thin veneers.

Craftsmen utilised native British timbers selected for their natural coloration, including boxwood, holly, yew, sycamore, walnut, plum, and oak. Foreign woods were rarely dyed; instead, techniques like mineral soaking or fungal staining (such as oak infected with Chlorociboria aeruginascens for green hues) were employed.

Authentic pieces feature end-grain wood mosaics rather than painted decoration or printed paper imitations. Examining the edges under magnification reveals minute wooden tesserae, and genuine examples show subtle variation in wood grain and natural oxidisation appropriate to their age.

An antique box serves as a functional decorative object on a sideboard top, bookshelf, or bedside table to conceal small trinkets. Layering the rich timber textures against neutral contemporary backdrops creates visual warmth and historical contrast.

Keep the wood away from direct sunlight, central heating vents, and high humidity, which can warp thin veneers or loosen original glue joints. Dust gently with a soft microfibre cloth and apply a high-grade beeswax polish sparingly to protect the finish.
