Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

William IV furniture spans the brief transitional period from 1830 to 1837 between Regency and early Victorian design. It is characterised by substantial proportions, prominent turned ornamentation, reeded side columns, and rich timber veneers such as flame mahogany.

Chests from this era were primarily constructed using solid mahogany or pine carcasses veneered in highly figured flame mahogany. Drawer linings were typically made of oak or pine, joined with hand-cut dovetails and fitted with turned wooden knobs or cast brass escutcheons.

Authentic pieces display period construction techniques, including hand-sawn timber marks, hand-cut dovetail joints, and original brass locks. Key design hallmarks include bold reeded or carved side columns, melon-lobed turned feet, and serpentine drawer fronts showcasing matched wood grain.

A dark mahogany chest serves as a grounding focal point when set against contemporary neutral backdrops, muted paint schemes, or textured wallpaper. Decorate the top surface with minimalist ceramics, modern lighting, or abstract artwork to balance traditional woodwork with modern design.

Maintain the finish by dusting regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth and applying a natural beeswax polish once or twice a year in the direction of the grain. Keep the item away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage and veneer fading.
