Art Deco Cocktail Shaker with Ice Breaker by Walker and Hall - 1928

1900 - 1920
Sold by Puckerings
Description

This is a lovely example of an English silver plated cocktail shaker, slightly more unusual in shape with the flattened screw-top rather than the usual pull-off cap.

Another unusual feature is the little instrument inside the lid leading to a hole in the lid allowing a vacuum to be avoided when taking the whole top off. Inside the lid is also an ice-breaker.

Made by a top-notch Sheffield silversmith, Walker and Hall. Being Walker and Hall we are able to date it accurately with the date letter K which was for the year 1928, making this 90 years old this year.

Excellent condition measuring 7" tall with a maximum diameter measuring 3 1/2".

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Art Deco cocktail shakers feature streamlined silhouettes, geometric lines, and highly polished metallic finishes typical of 1920s and 1930s design.

During this era, cocktail shakers were predominantly manufactured from silver plate, sterling silver, or chrome-plated metal, often featuring integrated strainers or internal ice baffles.

Authentic pieces typically feature makers marks, hallmarks, or electroplate stamps on the base, alongside structural features like fitted stepped caps and period-correct solder seams.

Display silver cocktail shakers on a styled bar cart, sideboard tray, or open shelving alongside glass barware to add a metallic focal point.

Clean gently using a soft cloth and a specialised silver polish formulated for electroplated silver, avoiding harsh abrasive cleaners or dishwashers.
