A stunning and very unusual "Black Forest” deep carved bear Lindon wood hall seat signed H. Spring of Interlaken and dated 1914. The shaped back in the form of a realisticly carved oak tree with leaves and acorns and showing two fighting bears, one with a pike the other welding a spiked mace. The seat having shallow carved bears again set within an oak tree. The seat lifts to a useful storage area and the shaped arms and ends again with further carving. The humorous front panel carved with 3 bears all skiing, one smoking a pipe another carrying a tied sack and towing his skis, the other skiing down hill. The whole in very good untouched condition.
