William Walcott (1887-1943) The Bullfight, Drypoint Etching, 1924

Image plate size:15cm x 35cm, signed in pencil. Framed and glazed, overall size including frame and mount: 40cm x 58cm
 
William Walcott was born near Odessa of Scottish/Russian parentage and studied Arts and Architecture at The Imperial Academy of The Arts in St. Petersburg.
 
He was a trained architect, however on moving to London in the early years of the 20th century his focus became principally art and illustration, and it was here too where he developed his distinctive impressionistic style.
 
He enjoyed numerous commissions from the leading architects of the day including Sir Edwin Lutyens, Sir Herbert Baker and Sir Aston Webb.
 
An example of this etching is held in the permanent collection of The National Gallery of Art, Washington DC.
 
Condition: plate-excellent, original mount (with date stamp) -with some light and isolated foxing/dust specks.
