Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Silver candlesticks from the George III period, particularly those crafted in the 1760s, frequently incorporate classical Greek and Roman architectural elements. Features such as fluted columns, Corinthian capitals, and square stepped or tiered bases define this Neoclassical aesthetic.

During the 18th century, silver candlesticks were produced using cast or sheet sterling silver, often built around a core filling to provide weight and stability. Stamped components were assembled and hand-finished, with detailed capital foliage and fluting added by skilled silversmiths.

Authentic British silver of this era carries a series of stamped hallmarks usually located near the base or rim. These typically include the lion passant for sterling silver, a town mark, a date letter representing the year of assay, and a makers mark consisting of the silversmiths initials.

A pair of architectural silver candlesticks creates balanced symmetry when placed on a dining table centre, mantelpiece, or sideboard top. Their reflective metallic surface adds warmth and height contrast when paired with contemporary artwork or minimalist decor.

Maintain antique silver by dusting with a soft cloth and polishing periodically using a non-abrasive silver cream designed for historic metals. Avoid harsh chemical dips or dishwasher cleaning, and store in non-reactive felt wraps to prevent oxidisation and tarnishing.
