Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A fusee skeleton clock is a mechanical timepiece featuring exposed brass gearing and a cone-shaped pulley system designed to equalise the torque of the mainspring as it unwinds. Popularised during the Victorian era, these clocks display their internal horological movement open to view, traditionally protected under a clear glass dome.

Skeleton clocks are predominantly constructed from cut and polished sheet brass plates, steel arbors, and pinion wire, mounted upon a wooden or marble base. They are encased within a blown glass dome to protect the delicate exposed mechanism from dust and debris.

Authentic Victorian examples feature hand-cut brass plates, pierced gothic or geometric scrollwork, and hand-filed gear teeth. Indications of age include hand-engraved silvered chapter rings, steel fusee chains or gut lines, and original glass domes showing characteristic hand-blown irregularities.

A skeleton clock serves as a focal horological accent when positioned on a fireplace mantel, mahogany credenza, or library bookshelf. Surrounding it with neutral tones or dark wooden surfaces highlights the metallic brass details and geometric framework without cluttering the display space.

Keep the glass dome in place to prevent airborne dust from entering the movement gearing. Clean the exterior glass with a dry microfibre cloth, and have the mechanical movement professionally cleaned and lubricated by a qualified horologist every five to seven years.
