Antique Caucasian Kasim-Usag rug of classic design with superb colour. Dated to the field 1273 (1856).

The rug is of an early date and has drawing of a scarce form, the dye quality is excellent with very clear saturated colours.

The rug is in excellent original condition with slight even wear to most areas with good pile. The central medallions are a little lower with medium pile.

Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Kasim-Usag rugs originate from the Karabagh region in the southern Caucasus and are recognised for their distinct geometric design featuring stylized dragon or branched motifs extending from central octagonal medallions.

Caucasian carpets are hand-knotted using locally sourced wool for both the pile and the warp and weft foundation, incorporating natural plant and mineral dyes to achieve saturated colours.

Authentic pieces exhibit all-wool construction, subtle asymmetry in the hand-woven design, natural dye variance known as abrash, and occasionally woven dates or inscriptions in Arabic script.

A geometric Caucasian rug serves as a focal point in contemporary or minimalist settings, bringing visual weight, historical context, and rich colour contrast to modern furniture.

Vacuum regularly using suction only without a rotating brush bar, rotate the carpet annually to balance wear, use a suitable underlay, and arrange professional hand-cleaning when required.
