Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Chippendale style fretwork mirror is characterised by hand-cut scrollwork silhouettes surrounding the central glass, often featuring a carved cresting motif such as a bird or shell.

Mirrors from this era frequently utilised dense timber such as yew, mahogany, or walnut for the outer frame, combined with water-gilded accent moulding surrounding the mirror glass.

Authentic 19th-century examples display distinctive fine-grained yew timber with natural figure variations, period backboards, and slight hand-worked irregularities along the fretwork cutouts.

Positioning a carved wooden mirror above a hall console table or fireplace mantel creates a focal point that bridges historical craftsmanship with contemporary design elements.

Dust the timber and gilded surfaces gently with a soft dry microfibre cloth, avoiding liquid cleaners on gilded areas, while cleaning the glass by applying cleaner sparingly to a cloth.
