Magnificent French Leather & Silver Card Case with Clock - Signed Giraudon, Paris

Description

An absolute star of a card case dating to around 1890 / 1900 covered in a green leather, almost resembling Shagreen. The left-hand corner is inset with a watch in working condition and complete with the key. This is surrounded by exquisite silver (unmarked) mounts beautifully engraved to enhance it's decorative value.

The catch is firm and when pushed opens the case revealing a superb interior lined in powder blue moire silk, with the pockets either side being able to hold a modern day business card and even a credit card.

This case doubles as an aide memoir with the reusable bone tablet in the centre with a fitted silver propelling pencil.

The back covering is where the signature can be found embossed into the taffeta " Giraudon, 18 Rue De La Paix, Paris ".

Excellent condition, measuring 4" x 2 3/4" while closed.
