Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The Louis XV style, prevalent in eighteenth-century France, is characterised by Rococo influences, fluid curves, asymmetrical ornament, and serpentine lines. Key structural features include cabriole legs, scroll feet, and decorative parquetry or marquetry veneer work.

Eighteenth-century French parquet tables were typically crafted from solid native hardwoods such as European oak, walnut, or fruitwood. The tops feature hand-cut geometric wood veneers fitted together into intricate patterns using mortise and tenon joinery and wooden pegs.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-hewn woodwork, pegged joinery rather than modern screws or nails, uneven hand-cut parquet tiles, and natural oxidation within the timber and drawer linings. Surface patina should show natural wear consistent with centuries of use.

A classic French parquet table offers warmth and architectural interest when placed alongside clean-lined modern sofas or contemporary minimalist upholstery. Pairing rich antique timber with neutral natural textiles balances historical detail with contemporary living.

Maintain the finish by dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year. Keep the table away from direct heat sources and maintain stable ambient humidity to prevent the parquet veneers from lifting or warping.
