Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Club fenders originated in the late 19th century in British gentlemens clubs to provide additional fireside seating without obscuring heat from the hearth. They became standard architectural features in private libraries, billiard rooms, and country estates during the late Victorian and Edwardian eras.

Traditional club fenders are constructed with a solid metal base and upright balusters made from brass, polished steel, or silvered metal. The raised corner benches are supported by structural posts and upholstered in materials such as leather, wool tartan, or heavy tapestry fabric.

Authentic period examples exhibit significant overall weight, heavy cast or sheet metal bases, and traditional joinery such as threaded rod fixings rather than modern welds. Wear on the silvering or plating, oxidisation in crevices, and hand-tacked upholstery undersides also indicate age.

A club fender is positioned directly around a fireplace hearth in a living room, study, or open-plan seating area. It adds structural definition to the fireplace while offering functional secondary seating that complements both classic and eclectic modern decor.

Metal surfaces should be dusted with a soft, dry cloth and cleaned using non-abrasive polishes specifically formulated for silvered or lacquered metal finishes. Upholstered corner pads require light vacuuming with a soft brush attachment and spot cleaning with fabric-safe products.
