Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A 19th-century French glazed commode, often influenced by Louis XVI Neoclassical design, combines drawer or cupboard storage below with a glass-fronted vitrine section above. These pieces were crafted to display fine porcelain or collectibles while providing functional enclosed storage.

These cabinets typically feature fine walnut veneers, solid wood framing, hand-cut dovetail joints, and glass panes. Decorative highlights frequently include cast brass or ormolu mounts, polished tops, and geometric parquetry work.

Authentic 19th-century French furniture features hand-crafted joinery, period-correct brass hardware showing natural oxidisation, and subtle irregular wear across wood surfaces. Examining drawer bases, back panels, and secondary construction timbers helps verify age.

Position the cabinet against a neutral or deep-toned wall to emphasize the wood grain and brass trim. Utilize the glazed upper cabinet to display contemporary ceramics, books, or glassware, balancing historical details with modern accents.

Dust the wood surfaces regularly using a soft, dry cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish sparingly to nourish the timber. Clean glass panels using a mild cleaner applied directly to a microfibre cloth to prevent liquid from seeping into wooden frames or metal mounts.
