Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in the early-to-mid 19th century, a spoon-back salon chair features a contoured wooden back frame shaped similarly to a spoon, designed to support the sitter comfortably. Typically upholstered with deep buttoning and set on carved legs, these chairs were positioned in formal receiving parlours and drawing rooms.

Mid-Victorian salon chairs were predominantly constructed from dense hardwoods such as walnut, rosewood, or mahogany. The internal upholstery typically utilised natural materials including horsehair padding, steel coil springs, hemp webbing, and brass castors attached to the front legs.

Authentic pieces feature hand-carved timber detailing, crisp moulding around the wooden frame, and original brass castors secured to cabriole or turned legs. Examining the underside often reveals traditional hand-tacked webbing and evidence of natural age and oxidation on the unvarnished wood.

These low-profile accent chairs work exceptionally well when placed alongside clean-lined modern furniture to create visual contrast. Positioning one in a bedroom corner, dressing space, or adjacent to a modern hearth adds historical depth and texture to contemporary rooms.

Keep timber frames away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent shrinkage and timber bleaching. Polish walnut woodwork using high-grade beeswax, and vacuum upholstered panels gently using a soft brush attachment to prevent dirt from settling into the button tufting.
